Create, Write, Style. Repeat.

My name is Jen, and I'm a freelance creative now based in Maine after a long stretch in New York. Those few words time-capsule a journey that started 14 years ago as a magazine editor at Real Simple, where I fell in love with the home market, writing, reporting, and producing and styling photo shoots. And learned how to organize any closet in every way imaginable.

In 2008, I went freelance and followed my passion for decorating, throwing parties, modern crafting and DIY projects. That year, I planned my favorite party to date — my own wedding on a Maine farm, where I styled every detail down to the wildflowers and loved every minute of it. In addition to magazines, my work has been published on media sites including HGTV.com, Houzz, Once Wed, Rue magazine, and Oh So Beautiful Paper. In 2009, I started a personal blog called the haystack needle and quickly built a strong following, connecting with design bloggers across the country. I learned the art of gilding, and with a friend, co-created a capsule collection of gilded objects that received praise from outlets including Daily Candy and Oh Joy.

I also became a mama to Juniper and Leo. My heart tripled in size, and my phone quickly filled with photos documenting our days. What followed was a desire to witness the simple moments that so easily slip away when you're not watching. Working wiser, not harder. Making beauty with words one moment and making mud pies with my toddlers the next. Welcome to a little kaleidoscope of my work.
